Homeschooling in Nebraska

 Approach: Establish a homeschool. Parent must choose which exemption they choose. Rule 12 - Non-religious objection: Requires proof of vaccinations; Rule 13 - Religious objection
   
 Restrictions: No teacher qualifications, unless the teacher is “employed” by the family
   
 Reporting: File a notice of intent with the state commissioner by August 1 or 30 days prior to the start date of homeschooling, consisting of a Parent or Guardian Form (Form A) and Parent Representative Form (Form B). Also need to file birth certificate and Information Summary attached to Form B consisting of a calendar, list of instructional monitors, and a scope and sequence for each grade level. Forms available at Nebraska Department of Education website:http://ess.nde.state.ne.us/OrgServices/ExemptSchools/Default.htm
   
 Recordkeeping: None required, but should keep attendance data and grades. Filing under Rule 12 also requires maintaining immunization records.
   
 Requirements: Subjects required to meet the basic skills in the language arts, math, science, social studies and health. Attend 1032 hours for elementary school; 1080 hours for high school.
   
 Testing: Testing Not Required
   
 Compulsory  Attendance: Applies to children who are 6 years old by January 1 of the school year until age 18. Parents may file for an exemption for a child under age 7 by filing an affidavit with the local school district.
