Approach 1 |
|
| Approach: | Establish a homeschool with the parent to show that the child is elsewhere receiving equivalent instruction in the studies taught in the public schools |
| Restrictions: | Teacher certification not required |
| Reporting: | None, but parents may voluntarily file with the superintendent of schools in the town in which they reside a notice of intent. CT State Department of Education has implemented OPTIONAL procedures for parents to follow. |
| Recordkeeping: | Parents maintain a portfolio showing instruction in required courses. If you file a notice of intent, you may be subject to a portfolio review, which is a meeting between a homeschooling parent and a school official to determine if instruction in the required subjects has been given. |
| Requirements: | Subjects required include reading, writing, spelling, English, grammar, geography, arithmetic, U.S. history, and citizenship, including a study of the town, state and federal governments.
Attend 180 days. |
| Testing: | Not required |
| Compulsory Attendance: | Applies to children from 5 years of age and over and under 18 years of age, unless such child is a high school graduate. Parents of a 5- or 6-year-old may opt out of attendance when the parent signs an option form at the school district office. |
